Rebuilding the bothy roof
Two hundred years of walls, and a winter spent putting a proper roof back on them.

The walls were never the problem. Whoever built them in 1834 knew more about this weather than we do, and they had not moved a millimetre.
The roof was a different matter. Corrugated iron over rotten purlins, put on some time in the sixties and leaking in four places by the time we took it off.
We went back to timber, insulated hard, and slated it. It took the whole of one winter and rather more money than the estimate. It will now outlast everyone reading this, which is the only sensible way to think about a building on a hill.
