Drag the sun.
This is the real light at Larchfield. Eighteen hours of it in June, under seven at Christmas — and six doors on ninety acres, every one facing somewhere different.
Youdon'tbookaroom.Youbookacoordinate.
Six structures on ninety acres of a working Highland estate. Each one sits where it sits for a reason — a bearing, a view, a distance from the car. Choose the one you want to wake up facing.
The last eleven miles.
You leave the coast road at the white gable and the tarmac narrows to one car wide.
Six passing places in four miles. Take it slowly — this is where people meet the post van.
Over the grid and you are on the estate. The trees close in and the signal goes.
Hard standing for six. Everything from here is on foot, and that is the whole point.
THE UNITS · SIX DOORSTEPS
No two of them face the same way.
Each one is a place, not a room type — its own bearing, its own walk in from the car, its own view out of the door. Pick the one you want to wake up in.

DEMO RATES · WIRE THE PANEL TO YOUR BOOKING ENGINE- The stove lit and a basket of birch at the door
- Wool blankets, and more of them if you ask
- A breakfast box left in the porch before eight
- Hot water all night, and no meter on it
The dome roof, and the whole sky through it
Ninety acres, and a bearing to everything on it.
This is the whole site, drawn to scale from the car park. Take a bearing on anything — the plate will tell you how far it is and how long it takes to walk.

Hover a mark, or arrow through them.We would rather you came in the right month.
Larchfield sits at 56.8°N. That buys you eighteen hours of light in June and under seven in December, and it is honest work to pretend otherwise. Here is the whole year, including the parts nobody puts on a website.
- A waterproof that has actually been tested
- Boots you have already broken in
- Midge repellent, June to August
- A head torch between October and March
- Swimming things, whatever the month

THE LOG · GUEST RECORDS

There is a hardback logbook in every unit. These are entries from it, copied out as written — including the weather they got.

The Bothy
Two, and a wet spaniel
We had booked for the walking and did almost none of it. The burn came up overnight and made a noise you could feel through the wall. Read two books, burned most of a basket of birch, and drove home arguing about which of us would ring first to book again. The drying room is not a luxury here. It is the whole point.

The Long Lodge
Four adults, two children, one dog
Six of us and nobody fell out, which for this family is a record. The children were in the tarn by ten every morning and asleep by nine every night. Be warned about the midges in still weather — the fire pit keeps them honest and the terrace does not. We ate outside four nights of five anyway.

Eighteen minutes uphill with a rucksack is exactly as advertised and worth every one of them. Woke at six to cloud filling the whole glen below the deck, with the tops out above it. Stood there in a blanket until my tea went cold. I have paid a great deal more for a great deal less.

Swam every day, twice on the Saturday. The boat is not a decoration — we took it to the far rock and back before breakfast. It never properly got dark, which we had not thought about and which turned out to be the best part. Book it for the solstice if you can get it.

Canvas in September was a gamble that paid. You hear everything — the rut had started in the corrie and it goes on most of the night, which our sixteen-year-old pretended not to be impressed by and then recorded on his phone. No midges by then. Take the high path early; it is longer than it looks on the plate.

Came for the dark and got it. The dome roof is the reason to book this one — lay in bed under the whole sky both nights and saw the Milky Way properly for the first time since childhood. Dark by four in the afternoon takes adjusting to. Bring more books than you think.

Turn the year. Whatever comes under the lamp is what somebody sat down and wrote that week — and the log on the back of each note is the day they wrote it. Mostly, as promised, bad weather.
